Crisis Skylight
I was approached by the charity, Crisis Skylight in regard of their 50 years celebration of the charity. They commissioned a number of artists across the UK to produce a body of work. I was chosen to represent Crisis in Wales. The title Crisis gave relating to all of the work to be produced UK wide was 'WHAT IF?'. So I didn't have to think of some 'artie fartie' title; it was done for me. How each artist/photographer interpreted the brief was entirely open. The only stipulation was that Crisis clients must be involved in the production process. So I turned up to the first meeting to discuss my ideas with staff and clients. Crisis clients were suffering with numerous addictions and mental issues. From day one, we bonded and they were excited with the prospect of working with me and producing work for a touring exhibition. They were under no pressure to take an active part, but most of them did. I initially photographed a series of portraits of them and explained that we would be making photocopy tiles and visiting the areas that they felt represented their current life and way of thinking. All of them were either rough sleeping or had experienced sleeping outside. So after some discussion, we felt that those were the places we should visit and paste the titles, ready to re photograph. I asked them to write a short summary of how they felt about their past, current and future experiences. Warning : all photographs are strictly copyright Roger Tiley. Illegal use without permission can be tracked by an ID number. An invoice will be issued. |
