Mine-scapes
During 1986, I was commissioned to take part in the 'Valleys Project' by Ffotogallery based in Cardiff, Wales. I remember working pretty much flat out for various newspaper and magazine publications over the past year. So working on a longer term project gave me time to, in a way. recharge my batteries, though I was still taking on work and spending any spare time working on the Valleys Project. I remember thinking that I would like to try some landscape photography. Pits were all ready being axed and I wanted to photograph them before they disappeared. It was a welcome break of photographing people. Looking back, the miners' strike had quite an affect on me personally. I was much more than a witness to it! Indeed, my Uncle Bill was on strike for a year. Over my career, when I felt I needed to chill a little, I would focus a project on the landscape. It seems to be a tonic that works!
